Nest Community Shelter fundraiser breaks records

MICHIGAN CITY – Nest Community Shelter has announced that its From Our Flock campaign surpassed their initial goal of raising $30,000 this holiday season, making this the largest fundraiser for the organization to date.

Funds raised totaled $31,200 and will make a substantial difference in the running of Nest Community Shelter thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, dedicated business partners, and compassionate individual donors.

Two Michigan City restaurants help feed Nest Community Shelter guests 

“What would you like for dinner?” might seem like a mundane question to most people. 

But ordering a dinner of their choice or having a holiday meal is a treat for guests of Nest Community Shelter in Michigan City. Recently, two area restaurants partnered with the shelter to make their nightly meals something special.  

Prior to Easter, Mark and Amanda Kolasa contacted the Nest about planning a holiday meal. The Kolasas own The Polish Peasant restaurant in Michigan City. Both natives of Michigan City, they are also the restaurant’s chefs, preparing and serving Polish American dishes.

Nest Community Shelter, a non-profit organization providing emergency housing and support services, has received a generous donation of 5,000 high-performance socks from Bombas known for their signature performance socks made from moisture-wicking and antimicrobial materials. The donated socks are being used to provide dignity and comfort to the shelter’s guests, with the excess supply of 3,750 pairs of socks being shared with the Michigan City Area Schools to support children and families in need throughout the local community.
